The Mont Saint Clair is the unmistakeable guardian angel of the Etang de Thau. Rising from the lagoon, the silhouette of the city of Sète across the bay is the backdrop to each shimmering silver sunrise, and sparkles its glittering reflection in the waters each starlit night. And from every room of this, our newest portside cottage on the Port Tabarka, are unforgettable views of the hill.
Like our other favourite waterfront homes in the port, this is a two bedroom home with a dining terrace looking straight out to the port. Port Tabarka is the working port of Marseillan, the bigger sailing boats and houseboats are to be found in the bustling main port itself.
Start your day with the shadows of early morning fishing boats and seagulls heading out to the oysterbeds;
Go to bed as the lighthouse beams of Sete caress the contours of the city of mariners, or the apricot hues of an over-inflated plump September harvest moon paints the silken waters lapping the harbour walls outside the house.
Here the chalut fishing boats and smaller dinghies are moored just yards from your front door. Every week new craft arrive in the port for painting and washing down. Here t
he fishermen spend time repairing their craft and take time to do the 101 everyday tasks that have no deadline and can always be interupted for a pastis with friends.
A welcoming house with a street door onto rue des Pecheurs itself, Le Saint Clair has a bright open living room with a fitted kitchenette - four ring induction hob, (with all the approved pots and pans) fridge, microwave and washing machine, with an extra table top oven and grill in the store room. The TV has extra cable channels (including English language news programmes) and if you want to stay in touch with the family - you can receive incoming telephone calls from all over the world, and you can call restaurants and friends ion their llandlines in France , Europe or north America for free. The house has the possibility of wifi internet access.

So why not bring your laptop with you, andyou may surf the net whilst watching fishermen repair their own nets in the port opposite the terrace. Then lie back on one of the recliner armchairs and put your feet uo - you are on holiday after all!

There is a guest shower room and second wc on this ground floor, and a comfy sofa in the living room area. So during a lazy evening in - no need to climb upstairs before bedtime!
A dining table and chairs in the living area have views out to the terrace and port. And there is TV with french cable channels.

Outside a table and chairs on the terrace offer the perfect opportunity for people watching in comfort and keeping an eye on the lagoon during long lazy dinners under the pergola - you can even plug in the electric barbecue to prepare the steak, seabass or langoustines you found in the region's fabulous food markets.
People watching is only half the story. If you don't catch the flamingos flying over the lagoon, you'll still be able to enjoy the summer aerobatics of the swallows and swifts swooping overhead, or to pass the time of day with the convivial ducks and drakes who call the waters and grasses in front of the house home.

"Meet the neighbours"

Upstairs is the principal shower room and wc and two bedrooms, one arranged as a double, another a standard twin room.
Both rooms have their views of the lagoon - and of course each window frames the distinctive outline of the Mont Saint Clair that gives the cottage its name.
And from every room of this, our newest portside cottage on the Port Tabarka, are unforgettable views of the hill.
Le Mont Saint Clair across the waters, the local winemakers just arond the corner, and a different restaurant for every night of the week on the quaysides just 2 minutes walk from the cottage...
... life does not get much better than this!
This house is a favourite with fans of the summer sports on the water - the local tournament takes place around the corner in the main port, and the familiar red and blue jousting boats with their high platforms are prepared for battle in the boatyard just across the way.
This summer game is played along the coast and if there is no event held in Marseillan the week of your visit, then a trip along the canal to Agde would be worth taking to see the boats do battle on the river Herault. And at the end of August, the place to visit is Sète by the Mount St Clair itself.
The St Louis trophy fought for by Sète's finest is as big here as a rugby international. Imagine the World Cup and Grand National, with just a touch of It's a Knockout!
But no need to leave town for entertainment and diversion, a short stroll along the waterfront and the main port hosts summer concerts, our own Lou Capelet games and even Jousting, Marseillan style - all the thrills, almost on your doorstep.
