A firm favourite for nine unforgettable summers, the perfect home from home has a swimming pool in the garden and is just a short stroll from the heart of the old village, and five minutes walk from the waterfront.

Central villa with swimming pool

Just a sniff of a freshly baked croissant from the boulangerie, and with the village and port a lazy wander from your front door, where better to enjoy the sun that shines for 300 days each year on three sides of this friendly villa in a quiet residential street.
With wifi internet connection, two comfortable reception rooms and an enviable library of music and movies, the house has all you could need for a family escape to the South of France, but just step down from the smart modern kitchen into the dining room/garden room, with its pop memorabilia, and prepare to spend your day by the inviting swimming pool, surrounded by the palm trees, shrubs and lawn that give the house its name.
The pool itself is more than 9 metres (32 ft) long and enjoys all day sunshine, and has an electric cover for your peace of mind. Enjoy a poolside barbecue with the family and friends or settle down with a good book and a long cool Noilly Prat

Marseillanais cocktail on the living room patio terrace on the other side of the villa.
Two sets of double doors from that patio lead to the main living room salon, which has three big comfy sofas, perfect for enjoying an evening of home entertainment on the large wide-screen TV, DVD and music centre, and in winter for savouring a bottle of a hearty local red wine in front of a a feelgood flick, whilst planning tomorrow's special lunch.

The kitchen, with its intimate corner breakfast bar for two is fully equipped with top quality Brandt cooker and electric oven, dishwasher, microwave and fridge freezer.

Breakfast for the family is best enjoyed outdoors in summer, by the pool.

With the sound of the crickets wafting in on the summer breezes,

the kitchen area is a relaxing and cool place to prepare the evening meal, and has steps down to enjoy in the poolside den, with its dining table seating 8 and another sofa and flat screen TV.

This sofa converts into an extra guest bed - ideal when visiting friends come round for the evening andtime just slips away.
The wifi can be enjoyed anywhere, indoors or in the garden. So you may download new books to your kindle from a lounger on the lawn, or update your facebook status to "Living in Paradise".

The master bedroom has a double bed and its own brand new en-suite shower room and wc.

There is a second wc and a family shower room for the villa's two other  bedrooms: a second double bedroom and a twin room, each with views out to the pool and patio area.

No need to rush and and out the house between swims, as a new solar powered poolside outdoor heated shower by the barbecue terrace means that you can rinse off in the gardens after each dip.

Besides the sofa bed in the poolside dining room, the main living room also has a foldout bed.

Ideal for when you invite
family friends to share your summer by the pool and days out exploring the infininite variety of life in the Languedoc.

The swimming pool has an electric cover, so it is easy to keep the garden safe, when there are children in the party. And closing the pool cover before going to bed, means that the water will be just the right temperature for that early morning dip before breakfast.

---------------

The new ensuite shower room - with plenty of room to manoeuvre - is

the latest addition to the master bedroom

---------------

Away from the pool, relax with a favourite track from the excellent range of CDs at the house, or choose from the wide selection of movies on DVD to enjoy on the big screen in the living room.

The music and movie libraries are constantly updated and guests can expect an eclectic collection - perhaps The Clash and Judy Garland; Jacques Brel and Cockney Rebel; maybe Sinatra and Serge Gainbourg on the playlist, and a chance to watch an Alec Guinness followed by a classic Jeanne Moreau!

Check out the musical memorabilia on the walls from 60s French legends to icon 80s bands.

There are three televisions in the house, the main screen in the living room, big enough for enjoying movies and great for watching local and international news.

And the poolside den and dining room has satellite channels so that the kids can use one reception room when the grown ups are in another.

Catch up with the international news channels on TV - French, British, American, German - especially when there is a chance of enjoying the weather forecast back home, after another sunny day by your own poolside in the South of France.

After all, Languedoc boasts over 300 days of sunshine every year!

And whatever the weather, with comfy sofas inside, loungers both poolside and on the lawn, dining tables on the patio under the stars, the magic of a Mediterranean summer afternoon lingering into evening can last as long as you like.

On the night of the full moon, lock up and stroll to the roundabout at the evocatively named avenue des Amants. From there, it takes but a few minutes to walk down towards the lagoonside and see the silvery moon reflected in the waters of the Thau.

Booking is simple:

Your stay can be reserved with just a 25% deposit - the balance due 8 weeks before your holiday.

You may also order freshly laundered bedlinen and towels for a modest supplement.

On a practical note, there is a washing machine at the house - drying racks for your laundry and you have a parking space for two cars right by your front gate.

BIENVENUE AU JARDIN

& the Village and Port

of Marseillan

Pour les details en francais, voir pied du page

You may leave the car at home to wander round to the village shops, several bakeries, and fresh olives, fruit, salads, meat and fish on market day.

A large Carrefour Market supermarket on the edge of the village is  10-minute walk away, whilst the village shops, market stalls, farm sheds and wineries offer so much fresh food, seafood and wine, you need never know a barcode throughout your stay.

Pause a while to catch up on the local gossip at a table outside the Marine Bar on the square, or hop on a bus to Agde, Sete or Beziers.

Between May and September, a regular shuttle bus heads down to the long sandy beach across the lagoon.

In the evening, a stroll into the village. Bernard will be welcoming the Boulevard regulars to a table on the pavement opposite the Mairie.

The smart set will have sauntered in to town for a celebration degustation dinner at the Table d'Emilie; and a livelier crowd made its way to the church square for a get together under the direction of a weekend DJ at the Delicatessen.

You could always amble down to the port, wander past the cafes and restaurants and simply browse the menus with their catch of the day and chef’s specials chalked up on the blackboards.

The quayside is a great place for dithering between the fashionable fare at the Château, fabulous wines at the Taverne, or the traditional dishes at O'Soleil, La Pacheline, La Luna or L'Escale

The Crêperie Camille by the Canal du Midi barges, or an inventive contemporary platter at

Entre Ciel et Mer amongst the temptations further along the port.

So much temptation and all so close to home.

If you can't bear to leave the poolside - even to go in to the dining room in the den next to the water - then chuck another seabass on the barbie and stay outside.

A stone barbecue on the patio is perfect for grilling fresh meat from the market or the catch of the day from the lagoon. Sizzle king prawns or steaks and picnic on the lawn.

Or you could simply pick up a few dozen oysters and go home to enjoy a simple seafood supper chez vous..

… chez Jennifer...
Or be ultra lazy and have dinner prepared for you Chez Pilou around the corner, where the full three course restaurant-style menu can be collected and served without you even having to look at a saucepan!
Keep scrolling down this page for plenty of new pictures, as Le Jardin de Jennifer prepares for her another summer of hospitality in Marseillan.
ACTIVITIES

If the pool in the garden is not enough, then consider sailing and water-sports on the lagoon, just 5 minutes on foot from the house.

Tennis courts by the lakeside. The beach is only a 5 minute drive away. And there, find jet skis and diving classes.

Head further along the coast and Cap d'Agde brings myriad sporting treats from pedalos to the excellent Golf Club. And there are Casinos at Agde and Sete for the gaming tables.

The house itself is a few minutes walk from the village theatre with its programme of music and drama, and the arts hub of Pezenas is 20 minutes by car from Marseillan.
In summer, wander down to the port for jousting, the Lou Capelet race up a ship’s mast and dancing at a summer ball.

In November, the autumn regattas attract several hundred sailors to the water.
a quiet evening in ... or a lazy afternoon outside
