Welcome to the delights of La Jòia, when our hidden gem, the little jewel of Marseillan, opens its doors to guests along the meandering rue Emile Zola, the lifeline of the village.

La Jòia in the patois of the Midi, the dialect of a region older than France itself, means “the jewel”, and this bijou house is a perfect little trinket box for a summer à deux.

Ideal for couples, the house has a lovely double bedroom on the first floor, with a spacious bathroom designed for luxuriating.

Plenty of little corners for holiday me-time, a glass of wine looking down from the bedroom balcony as the evening shadows stretch beneath, losing yourself in a favourite book with your mobile phone diverted to voicemail or catching up with your emails on the L-shaped sofa in the living room, a comfy chair by the top-floor coffee bar or a sunny table on the roof terrace.

This home has been designed with privacy in mind, yet, there is also an extra double bed hidden in the ground floor living room, should you prefer to share your home with an extra guest or two.

The house stands just a couple of footsteps from the rue Emile Zola, once the main street of historic Marseillan, on the rue du Colonel Denfert-Rochereau, a street named for the hero France dubbed the Lion of Belfort, commander of a garrison on the French border with Germany, a tiny territory that never surrendered to invasion and guarded its independence throughout the Franco Prussian war.

Now carefully renovated to become a comfortable and stylish home, polished shutters and smart ironwork of the yellow and blue village house welcome you.

On the ground floor, walk straight into the open-plan living room.

Pour yourself a cool refreshing glass of something chilled, white and local from the fridge and flop on the sofa to toast your arrival in Marseillan.

There is a modern dining table that opens out to seat 4 people.

The fridge is just next door in the utility/laundry room, together with a washing machine, iron and ironing board.

Up the old staircase to a first floor double bedroom where a Juliet balcony overlooks the street, and electric shutters keep the world at bay.

With a king-sized double bed and plenty of drawers for your clothes you will enjoy the luxury of space both in the bedroom itself and in the large en-suite bathroom, designed for those who like to linger over a lazy luxurious bathtime.

A comfortable wicker chair is just right for whiling away the time with a good book, snuggled up in your favourite bathrobe whilst the full-sized bathtub fills up ready for your lazy evening soak, and a seperate generously proportioned shower cublicle to for an invigourating refreshment after an afternoon at the beach,

A second entrance from the hallway means that guests overnighting on the ground floor sofa bed may have their own access to the bathroom without walking through the bedroom.

Just step up to the second floor to discover this den that is the very jewel of this jewel house. Exposed stone walls and ceiling beams in a light airy room with sofa and TV.

A breakfast bar for preparing your coffee and croissants, kettle and electric cafetière primed.

Then take your tray outside to the roof terrace and start your day in true Marseillanais style around the dining table, and listen to the call of the swallows and swifts celebrating a Languedoc morning, as the streets below wake up to another sunny day in the South of France.

No need to tiptoe through the living room to make your morning coffee should you have guests sleeping downstairs, since a second summer kitchen by the roof terrace has everything for the perfect petit déjeuner.

Having a second food preparation area so close to the terrace is a boon for enjoying the al fresco lifestyle at any time of the day or evening.

There is even an extra fridge up here to ensure that you’ve always a bottle of chilled cinsault rosé to enjoy with your oysters or aperitif.

Not forgetting a kitchen sink so that you need never carry dirty dishes downstairs!

This home benefits from a good wifi signal in every room.

You may also watch international news channels on the television in the den, so that you may catch up with news, traffic and weather reports from back home before switching over to the local French bulletins to check on the sea temperatures for those Mediterranean beaches a mere five minute drive from the house.

There is air conditioning in every room to guarantee cool comfort throughout the summer months adapts to provide cosy heating in winter, making La Jòia an ideal winter retreat for enjoying autumn wine festivals, Christmas markets or the New Year sales.

Bienvenue à La Jòia, welcome to our little jewel in the street of heroes.
