MAISON PAMELA is our little gem - a hideaway for grown-ups, in a sleepy, leafy street just 450 yards from the bustling centre of the village.

A striking modern single storey villa, with a plunge pool on the patio deck for cooling off on sultry summer afternoons.

Perfect for that a quick refreshing dip before relaxing on the terrace loungers with a good book, a good wine and a good companion.

Turn right left by the flower stalls on Tuesday morning's street market, pass the open garage door, where market gardeners sell pea pods, apricots or melons from their land and home-grown wines by the litre, then stroll down to the cul de sac, where the newly built Maison Pamela nestles between old family homes and the remises.

Here, where your close neighbours still keep all their harvest and vineyard carts and tools in their family run wineries just across the road, trundling out on the streets each September to cart their grapes from the fields to the cooperative weighing post by the quays.

Hidden from passers by the walls and secure gates, discover private off-street parking by the modest front door of this white-washed contemporary Mediterranean home, and none of the usual flights of stairs from the street to enter the mostly step-free house, where living, sleeping and entertaining, indoors and outside, is all on the level.

The main living room is extremely spacious, bright, smart and clean lines, from the lounge area with its polished floors and comfy sofa by the full height picture window looking out to le basin, the plunge pool lined with lemon and orange trees, to the bang-up-to-date kitchen dining space.

A washing machine is tucked away in a separate pantry area, and the kitchen units discreetly arranged within the free-flowing reception room, a space where all life is celebrated from the uncorking of a locally nurtured viognier, the serving of a delicious home-cooked meal to the lazing in front of a big screen movie before bedtime.

A wall of cleverly arranged panels hides a full range of pots, pans, utensils, glasses and crockery. And the built-in American style double fridge has chilled water on tap and a built in ice-cube dispenser - ideal for those 30-degree summer afternoons.

The entire kitchen is perfectly  equipped with all you need to make the meal of the day from the freshest produce from the villagers: Perhaps a bunch of asparagus from Monsieur Farenc, or a fine daurade or sole from Madame Azaïs-Negri, the Marseillan fisherwoman who lands her catch in the port every morning.

Or maybe yet some moules from Madame Castaldo's farm on the lagoon, to be cooked marinere in the white wine that you bought from the cellars of Monsieur Carayon at the top of the road.

The kitchen sink is strategically placed under the window.

Where better for looking out to the zen pebbled garden wrapped around the apricot tree on the terrace, and planning that perfect French summer dessert - tarte aux abricots - as freshly scrumped  and baked.

The cooker, with oven and induction hob, is built into an extended central island unit which evolves into a stylish dining table under a shower of inventive lights.

Half way through the room, at the point where the eating area segues into the flop zone, a cleverly designed work station is the ideal spot for emailing and updating your social media status.

Fanning out from the lounge are 3 bedrooms: two doubles, one with an en-suite shower, and  a twin bedroom as well.

The separate bathroom has a modern classic freestanding roll top bathtub, which provides an alternative to the walk in shower in the master bedroom.

The house has two wcs.

Each of the bedrooms, as well as the living space, has its integral air conditioning for full climate control, keeping you cool in the height of summer and warm in the winter.

From the art on the walls to the extra special personal comforts throughout.

And there is a great new TV in the living room with a range of channels including English language news stations. Configured as a home cinema, you can play your favourite DVDs and sprawl on the comfy sofa.

Maison Pamela is a private home for much of the year, but we are delighted to be able to share it with selected guests during the peak summer months.

We like to think of the Maison Pamela as our special retreat for grown ups, since the deep plunge pool on the terrace, with its cascade waterfall from the planter, is ideal for adults: a terrific alternative to the usual inflatable-packed splash and squeal pools of other holiday villas.

Instead, here you may relax to the uplifting sound of the waters gently trickling into the pool as the deck lights take over from the setting sun during an evening's true relaxation.

Should you be travelling with children, then you will be relieved to know that there is no direct access from the living room to le bassin. the door to the outside space can be securely locked, when there are no adults to supervise play.

The deck area on the patio has its own gate for extra security.

However, never forget that children should always be supervised when outdoors, and must never be left on their own on the deck nor the lawn area of the terrace.

Remember, this plunge pool may be short, but there is no shallow end!

This modest outside space has areas to doze on the grass by the tree, and to dine al fresco.

The house boasts an integral garage - with electric doors, so you may keep one car safely locked uo and another securely off the main road behind the front gates - ideal when the house is taken by two couples arriving independently.

Whilst the house is in a modest tree-lined street at the back of the village, it is still close enough to the centre that you can leave the car at home and wander off to the restaurants and summer festivals in the swuares of the centre and along the quays of the port.

The summer diary is packed with excuses for an afternoon or evening stroll into the village and down to the waterfront.

Oyster and wine fairs in the harbour, concerts on an outdoor stage by the place du Theatre. Don't forget the mid-july and mid-August fireworks over the lagoon or perhaps a late night dance in the church square.

Some enchanted evenings you might enjoy jazz at the Chateau du Port or browse your way through a craft market in the gardens or art exhibition outside the restaurant terraces.

Torchlight parades see a second midsummer outing for the Easter Carnival floats and the marching bands who take to the streets from the port to the heart of old Marseillan.

We'll let you know what may be happening during your stay, so you'll not miss out on the main event, and always have your own private oasis fr a private toast a deux or en famille at the end of the day.
