We should all enjoy the gift of living well - and the Villa Voltaire in Marseillan offers fine living at its very best. A gentle 500 metre stroll to  the historic village centre, with  the quayside restaurants of the port just a further 5 minutes. Turn around and the celebrated Languedoc vineyards, tended by your neighbours for generations, are just a few minutes away.

From a sunrise dip in the heated swimming pool to an evening relaxing in the hot tub, our newest villa in a sleepy cul de sac just off the boulevard Voltaire is the perfect place to indulge in that gift of bien vivre, as recommended by the great man of letters.

This garden room has a comfortable sofa and the main dining table seating 8 people.

The spacious and airy villa has windows on all 4 sides, so in the heat of the day, you may always catch a through breeze, with French doors and traditional green shutters leading from the main rooms to each of the gardens.

The biggest space in the villa is the very heart of the house, a double-height living room. Two floppable sofas in front of the fireplace and a fine staircase leading to a mezzanine sitting area. Here is the music system and tv for French and English language channels.

Double doors open out to the main front garden with its south-facing, tiled swimming pool, 8mx4m, always heated to 25º by solar panels.

Wrapped around the pool is a terrace designed for sunbathing, with a selection of loungers and comfy seating and side tables - perfect for sipping a glass of  pastis or Marseillanais cocktail blending red and white vermouths from Noilly Prat's distillery, just an olive stone's throw from home

In the heat of the day, leave behind the sun-dappled ripples on the swimming pool and open up the electric awning, where a dining table is framed by summer jasmine and bougainvillea. Later in the evening, you may prefer to relax under the beams of a wooden pergola, shaded by vines, summer and winter jasmine and wisteria.

Or perhaps simply relax in the hot tub whilst counting the stars on a summer's night. (hot tub may not be available, dependent on local/seasonal water restrictions)

Other outdoor options include the simple back garden laid to tiles and beds, planted with fruit trees, aromatic herbs and flowers.

If swimming is not your sport, then the garden's private boulodrome is perfect for playing petanque at l'heure de l'apéro within 30 seconds of a chilled bottle of Picpoul de Pinet from the comfortingly large fridge-freezer, found in the very well-equipped kitchen with its dishwasher, oven, microwave and induction hob. There is also a breakfast bar, ideal for a couple to kick-start any day a deux, before the rest of the family wakes up to enjoy breakfast on the terrace by the pool. Fresh croissants and pains au chocolat from Eugene's artisanal bakery in the village, perhaps, and delicious summer fruits grown in the fields around the village.

The master bedroom, with its king-size bed, is on the ground floor next to a shower room and wc.

Upstairs, find two more king-sized bedrooms and a standard double room, alongside the main bathroom with both bath and shower, and double sink and separate wc.

Villa Voltaire is not only convenient for the shops and stalls of Tuesday's market day in the cobbled streets of the village, but also walking distance from the edge of town supermarkets. You could stroll or cycle through the vines, or drive down to the endless sands of Marseillan Plage. No need to worry about parking as there is space for two cars on the driveway, behind the electric gates.
